Many
insurance carriers offer supplemental insurance programs that
allow employees to buy excess insurance on top of the base plans
offered by the employer. These plans usually carry the advantages
of group rates, limited underwriting and easy payment of premium
for the employee through payroll deduction.

operate independently from the group plan. Almost any benefit
can be offered in this fashion. These programs offer the advantages
of easy purchase at the worksite and ease of premium payment through
payroll deduction. The big benefit for the employer is that they
are benefits that can be offered at no direct cost.
